I've seen the developers respond to the game's negative response in a video interview before, saying that they got lots of death threats and hate mail over it. It's really a game where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and I really believe that it deserved far more adoration than it got, critically, on release. The missions, while less free-form than the first game, are extremely varied and thematically diverse. The soundtrack is absolutely S-tier and shames even the original game's highly regarded track list. The story and the way it's delivered here is among the best in the medium, IMO. While I initially struggled to adapt to its higher difficulty and increased emphasis on gunplay over melee weaponry relative to the original, the game's many strengths really won me over on subsequent playthroughs. 7.2 Mixed or average reviews based on 218 Ratings Your Score 0 Summary: Alpha Protocol is an espionage role-playing game set in the modern world. It's not that I don't understand many of the criticisms levied at the game in comparison to its predecessor, but I think it's overall the better of the two HM games and one of the best indie games ever made. The polarized response to Dennaton Games' follow-up to their original mega-hit, Hotline Miami, really breaks my heart whenever I think about it.
